Overview

We support, and ask all Members to support, the Fair Play Charter set out by England Basketball.

We support the long-term development of the game, and the continuation of Aztecs as a leading and credible club in this area.

We will encourage, support and coach youngsters to make the transition from school to club basketball.

We will make members welcome irrespective of their race, gender, sexuality, age (subject to the minimum age of 16).

We will coach younger/inexperienced players in both the rules and the etiquette of the game and the Club.

We will provide coaching support to all Members - young or old, elementary or advanced players – who wish to improve their skills.

We will set appropriate standards of behaviour in both matches and practices, and Committee members and team coaches will ensure they are sustained.

Recognising the chronic shortage of officials, we will

(a) support members who wish to qualify as referees

(b) respect and support match officials even when decisions appear to have gone against us

(c) engage socially with match officials where possible so that they too can enjoy the afterglow of the game

Recognising the valuable work done by the people who, unpaid and in their spare time, run our clubs and leagues, we will

(d) support their efforts

(e) offer encouragement and constructive suggestions, without being unduly critical and without adding unduly to their workload

Recognising that local basketball is a big family, we will

(f) respect our club mates

(g) respect our opponents

(h) co-operate with local clubs in appropriate circumstances, eg in some social activities, and finding “homes” for players who need to relocate.

Safeguarding for young players

Whilst we are predominately a basketball club who caters for members over the age of 18 year old. If there are members aged less than 18, we have a Welfare Officer, Richard Savage. He can be contacted through the club’s ‘contact us’ page.
